About Me
I'm 24 years old and have spent the last 11 years of my life using my free time to practice writing and web design. The ability to design content and challenge myself to create new and innovative ways to reach people excites me. Although there was no Computer Science degree offered at Temple University's Japan campus, I was able to integrate my passion for technology and the Internet in many of my projects and was also able to share my knowledge with my peers.
I chose to pursue a degree in Communications to improve my understanding of media, both new and old, and to gain a deeper insight into journalism. Learning from professors who worked for, or are currently employed at, some of Japan's biggest news companies provided a valuable look at the way information is disseminated and its importance in the world today.
For the past 3 and a half years I've been teaching at a family-run English school for children while attending college. I'm currently serving as a head teacher there and teach classes of up to 15 students. It has been a great experience and my students have taught me so much. I'm extremely grateful for the time I've gotten to spend as their teacher and for having had the opportunity to look at my own language and culture from a different perspective.
My choice to live in Japan was originally inspired by my desire to be a game designer and in high school I spent a year living in Osaka, Japan while attending a Japanese school through Rotary Youth Exchange. I did not ultimately pursue that career option, but the country left a huge impression on me and I decided to return for college. There are a lot of reasons to love Japan, but personally I see a lot of opportunities to learn and grow in ways which I can't in America.
